Hey, Iβm Christina π«
In July 2024, I packed up my life in Brooklyn π½ and moved to Iwate, Japan π to work as an Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) through the JET Program π―π΅. I now help teach English as a second language at a local high school β and every day is its own little adventure βοΈβ¨
From BK to Iwate started as a way to stay grounded, reflect on this wild journey, and share what itβs really like to start over on the other side of the world π. I even created a pen pal program between my Japanese students and the school I taught at back in Brooklyn π because I believe connection matters β even across oceans π.
Since arriving, Iβve:
β Watched a sumo match π₯
β And eaten more ramen than I care to admit π
β Participated in a tea ceremony π΅
β Tried Japanese archery πΉ
β Started learning the koto πΆ
(When Iβm not adventuring, youβll find me cooking in my cozy little kitchen π©πΎβπ³ or posting on TikTok π₯.)
I love sharing my passion for Japanese culture with others β itβs why I post, why I write, and why this space exists. Getting to explore Japan with my best friend was such a dream πΈ, but I know not everyone can hop on a plane β so I hope this blog is a little window into the world Iβm experiencing. A way for us to connect, learn, and grow together β no matter where you are πΊοΈπ
This space is about courage π±, curiosity π§ , and discovering yourself in unfamiliar places. Whether youβre dreaming of a big leap or just navigating your own kind of change, I hope something here makes you feel seen.
Thanks for following along π
