Hey, I’m Christina 💫

In July 2024, I packed up my life in Brooklyn 🗽 and moved to Iwate, Japan 🍃 to work as an Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) through the JET Program 🇯🇵. I now help teach English as a second language at a local high school — and every day is its own little adventure ✏️✨

From BK to Iwate started as a way to stay grounded, reflect on this wild journey, and share what it’s really like to start over on the other side of the world 🌍. I even created a pen pal program between my Japanese students and the school I taught at back in Brooklyn 💌 because I believe connection matters — even across oceans 🌊.

Since arriving, I’ve:
– Watched a sumo match 💥
– And eaten more ramen than I care to admit 🍜
– Participated in a tea ceremony 🍵
– Tried Japanese archery 🏹
– Started learning the koto 🎶

(When I’m not adventuring, you’ll find me cooking in my cozy little kitchen 👩🏾‍🍳 or posting on TikTok 🎥.)

I love sharing my passion for Japanese culture with others — it’s why I post, why I write, and why this space exists. Getting to explore Japan with my best friend was such a dream 🌸, but I know not everyone can hop on a plane — so I hope this blog is a little window into the world I’m experiencing. A way for us to connect, learn, and grow together — no matter where you are 🗺️💚
