Why I Started This

I’ve been doing this thing where I think about wanting to start my first blog post, but just thinking about it and not opening the actual document and getting to typing. Then I overthink about starting it so much that I end up not doing it all.

So. Here we are.

First, why did I decide to start this? Long story short:  I wanted to have a space where I could write the things that don’t fit into my TikTok videos or on an instagram caption. Heck, even youtube seems a little too daunting for this idea. I can type pretty well, it’s the talking to a camera that makes me take a little more time.

That all said…

I’m Christina, I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, and I am currently living in Iwate, Japan. I was given the opportunity to live and work here teaching English, and it has been quite the experience so far.

I decided to start this blog specifically to give myself room to slow things down and tell better stories. Especially about the weird, beautiful, and occasionally frustrating moments that come not only living abroad, but being a foreigner living abroad that doesn’t speak the country’s language fluently. Yeah. That’s a thing.

I’ll write about teaching, cultural discoveries, what I’m cooking, and literally whatever else is on my mind that week. I’m hoping it’ll look somewhat put together. Or not? Maybe that is the point.

That means some posts might be structured, and some might be a little more rambly. Sometimes there will be photos, recipes, and sometimes just normal old updates.

If this sounds like something you’d enjoy, I do hope you’ll come back and stick around. I’m glad you’re here!!
